Waves, tacos & beer.
PNW's finest.
Canada's unofficial surf town capital, it seriously embodies the best the west coast has to offer.
You can surf all year round if you want, just make sure you're ready to embrace the cold!

Here's how we spent our weekend: (1) Friday Night

After work we left to catch a 6:00pm evening ferry. You can either head to Horseshoe Bay or the Tswwassen terminals. During peak seasons, you might want to make a reservation - there is a reservation fee or just keep checking the live updates to see the capacity of the ferry. We took the Horseshoe Bay option which takes about 2 hours to get to Nanaimo. Most people stop in Port Alberni but we powered through and drove straight to Tofino. We reached Tofino at 11pm ( so roughly 5 hours from Vancouver). We checked into Jamie's Rainforest Inn which happened to be a great place to stay. We managed to grab a much needed and ridiciously refreshing beer right before the last call. We had lots of nice things to say about Jamie's. It had nice clean rooms, lots of parking space, great location and was surf board friendly. The restaurant/bar had great food & drinks, and there was live music as well. For the most part, the vibe was relaxed which we loved. There was little trail we discovered the next morning that brought us to a spectacular view of a lake that LITERALLY led directly from our room.

(2) Saturday
Luckily it was sunny for us so we packed a whole ton of surfing into Saturday. We woke up extra early to grab surfboards from Pacific Surf Co. Your'e able to rent soft roof racks (free of charge) to transport your gear to and from all the beaches you'll want to check out.

We headed over to Cox Bay and Chesterman Beach for the morning. Then to the Mackenzie and Wikannish Beaches after grabbing some lunch from the infamous Tacofino Catina - we had some amazing burritos & tacos (defintely recommending the beef burritos and the fish tacos). After a whole day of surfing we headed over to the Tofino Brewing Co. We ended up finishing the night with a memorable campfire on the beach.

Campfires are permitted in some beaches, but always be mindful that you put it out! Make sure to research where you can. We went back to Chesterman Beach
Keep in mind, if you aren't surfing there is PLENTY to do. I'd actually recommend checking Long Beach. As well as heading as over to Ucluelet to visit the Pacific Rim National Park and the Wild Pacific Trail.
(3) Sunday
Shorter day, the guys woke up early again to catch one last wave during sunrise. Brought back the rentals and we walked around the Tofino core. The weekend didn't feel like it was enough time! But it was defintely a nice break before heading back to work on a Monday.
Just before heading out we stopped over at Radar Hill, a lot of the locals recommended it. Turns out this place was formely a radar station that was used for early warnings of air strikes to North America during WWII. Now it's serves the public by allowing us to witness beautiful panoramic views over thousands of acres of forest.
Would we visit Tofino again? 100%. Check out these websites for some more info ! -Tourism Tofino - Ucluelet
